13th April 2019: MI vs RR IPL Match Analysis, Preview and Prediction

An intense battle!

The weekend starts off with two spectacular matches. First off, match number 27 of the VIVO IPL 2019; we have the Mumbai Indians taking on the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede stadium. While Mumbai are placed second with 8 points, Rajasthan are in the seventh position with a single win. MI is in search of the win that will help them move above CSK, especially now that KKR have gone down to a superb Delhi. So, join us for the latest team news, starting XIs, key players, and of course our prediction.

Mumbai Indians

The former champions are now one of the favourites to clinch their hands on the title for the third time. It is time that Mumbai start their contention in all seriousness. A powerful show against Kings XI Punjab in their last match will surely give them a boost in confidence. But they cannot ignore their batting woes. With Rohit Sharma out, Siddesh Lad finally got his chance for debut in five long years. It surely proved to be a big moment for the opener but will need to perform better if he wants to be on the team. MI will be elated to see Kieron Pollard to be back in form. The West Indian decimated the KXIP bowling with a scintillating 31 ball 83. Against RR, the rest of the bunch, namely, Suryakumar Yadav, the Pandya brothers and the young Ishan Kishan will need to step up. Now with Sharma looking to return, Lad will probably have to sit this one out.

MI has the pace in their bowling line up. With Malinga back in the squad, MI now has few of the best pacers in IPL. The likes of Bumrah, Joseph and Behendorff will all be fighting for a position in the starting XI. Hardik Pandya proved to be excellent with the ball in the last match. It will be interesting to see whether the coach continues on with the same team or change around a struggling RR.

Pollard is the most dangerous man right now behind another West Indian Andre Russell. Bumrah and Joseph will have to be at their clinical best with the ball.

Predicted XI

Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Alzarri Joseph, Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendoff, Rahul Chahar.

Rajasthan Royals

It was another day of bad results for Rajasthan as their condition continues to worsen. With a solitary win over a much worse RCB, Rajasthan have to do everything to win this match. Against CSK, a mediocre RR batting managed to put up a decent 150+ score. But it was in vain as a Dhoni master class took the match from them again in the penultimate over’s. RR has plenty to worry about their batting as well as the MI bowling. Rahane and Buttler have not been effective with the bat while opening for the team. Steve Smith who was slowly notching up runs also failed to make any kind of impact in the last match. Rajasthan have a tough job ahead of them if they want to win this match on a batting friendly pitch.

The bowling of RR has been good but they have lacked the finish. Against CSK, they had the mtch in their hands with four early wickets but could not capitalize as Dhoni went on to win it. Dhawal Kulkarni and Unadkat will need strike early again to remove the top order of MI.

RR will be banking on Smith, Buttler and Stokes to do the needful with the bat. Kulkarni, Unadkat and Stokes will have the job to stop a dangerous Pollard and co.

Predicted XI

Ajinkiya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Steve Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Prasanth Chopra, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ashton Turner.

Prediction: Who’ll Win?

The pitch will prove a run fiesta given MI has a couple of big hitters in the bag. It will come down to the bowling of the defending team. Expect Mumbai to go through here.
