Mumbai Indians Vs Kolkata Knight Riders Prediction, Preview and Pre-Match Analysis: Who Will Win today?

Welcome to the much-awaited tie between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders scheduled to be played at the Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai. We are nearing the final days of the group stage of the competition and this is where things can really heat up. Hope on as we discuss the predicted line-ups, points of discussion and the expected result of today’s ipl match.

Mumbai Indians

This late into the tournament, Mumbai Indians are still struggling which is nothing new to the IPL faithful. This time, however, they have already lost 3 of their initial 9 matches and as things stand, their qualification into the next round will be extremely difficult, next to impossible. The defending champions, however, would be looking to battle it out anyhow, spoiling parties of some teams as they bow out with their champion heads held high. The fact that most of their star players haven’t performed well has really added to their worries. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have it in them to provide a champagne showing before the end of the tournament.

Batting Line-Up

Rohit Sharma has tried and failed to consolidate a position for himself all tournament. With the inclusion of JP Duminy, the batting line-up has seen more solidity. The order still remains a bit haphazard at this moment. However, with the proper mix of power and skill in their ranks, Mumbai Indians can rely on their batting to chase any total or set a mammoth total. Surya Kumar Yadav has been the player that Mumbai Indians have found most dependable. With such good balance in their batting, it would take an immense bowling effort from the Knights to stop them. The key player in this department could be Hardik Pandya.

Bowling Line-Up

The strength of Mumbai Indians has been their bowling. Mayank Markande, in particular, has been a revelation and is one of the finds of the season. With the recent inclusion of Ben Cutting and JP Duminy in the team, their bowling is expected to be more varied and enriched. Impressive and cutting-edge bowling is needed especially against the Knights in Wankhade. With their all-around pace attack, Mumbai Indians are expected to challenge some of the Knight Riders batsmen who haven’t been too comfortable with short balls. The key could be Mayank Markande against the Knight Riders who would be playing him for the first time.

Playing 11

Suryakumar Yadav, Evan Lewis, JP Duminy, Rohit Sharma( C ), Ishan Kishan( WK ), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Ben Cutting, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Markhande.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders have had a strong season so far. They are taking long strides towards the playoffs. They have 5 wins already and visit Mumbai with much more confidence than they usually do pertaining to their previous record. KKR have been riding on their brilliant team balance again like previous seasons. Their first team has more or less stayed injury-free and devoid of loss of form. As a result, their poor bench strength has not been exposed that much. All their key players seem in pretty good form and therefore, they have had stability in their team. The captaincy and confidence shown by Dinesh Karthik have really helped KKR.

They come up against MI confident of their abilities.

Batting Line-Up

Though the blistering pair of Narine and Lynn up top lacks stability, KKR has a lot of players they can count on in their middle order. Their middle order at present seems their strongest point and with the much-awaited stunning knock of Shubman Gill, their middle order seems very promising. Nitish Rana, who has been widely regarded as the best batsman of KKR this season is expected to recover from a sore back and take the place of Rinku Singh in the team. Their batting has outplayed their usually spectacular bowling. Sunil Narine could be key at the Wankhede on Sunday.

Bowling Line-Up

The spin-trio of KKR is their principal strength. This is a statement often heard and this time Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, and Kuldeep Yadav are responsible for this. Their pace bowling unit has been decent as well and with the promising form of Shivam Mavi, the omission of fellow u-19 star Kamlesh Nagarkoti has not been felt as such. All in all, KKR’s bowling are dependable when it comes to defending a total and KKR might feel comfortable defending any total set by MI due to their rich coverage of bowling options.

Playing 11

Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Dinesh Karthik ( C & WK ), Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Mitchell Johnson, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav
