RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

RCB can only blame themselves after winning just two and losing four despite having one of the best batting line-ups, if not the best. This shows the importance of a defensive bowling line-up, and their ability to defend runs. Virat Kohli has made few baffling decisions and his captaincy can be questioned after few dubious decisions. Playing Corey Anderson instead of Chris Woakes can only weaken their already tumultuous bowling line-up, and to add salt to that the Kiwi could not defend 15+ runs in the last over.

Batting

The batting department looks set, and with Grandhomme in there will be a mighty balance. De Villiers has been sublime, and Kohli has had a good start personally. De Kock hasn’t been able to convert his starts, but with Mandeep, down the order, they look set. It would be nice to see IPL veteran Parthiv Patel get a chance and open the batting. RCB’s opening pair isn’t set for IPL 2018, and that could be worrying, and Patel is an excellent player of spin considering the spin trio of Narine, Yadav, and Chawla.

Bowling

The bowling is where everything is going wrong. Umesh Yadav is brilliant in the opening spells but is in a dreadful form in the death. RCB need to draft in Woakes at the expense of woeful Anderson. Even the experience of Tim Southee may do the trick. Navdeep Saini is an exciting prospect, but RCB would rely on Chahal and Sundar to get the job done in the middle overs.

The key remains with Kohli and De Villiers, and on a flat Chinnaswamy pitch, you can expect to lose sight of the ball more than often. In the bowling department, Umesh would be the key and would like to blow away the KKR batting line-up in the opening spell.

RCB Playing 11

Parthiv Patel/Manan Vohra, Quinton De Kock, Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin De Grandhomme, Washington Sundar, Chris Woakes/Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammad Siraj/Navdeep Saini

KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Losing to Shreyas Iyer heroics has left the SRK owned team in tatters, and it would be tough to beat RCB in their home despite Kohli’s side going through a wobble. KKR’s best chance has always been spin bowling, but there is a sense of relying too much on it. Opening the bowling with spinners often nullifies the threat possessed by the pacers. KKR would like to grab hold of things in IPL 2018 with a victory, but in order to do so, they need to make a few alterations.

Batting

DK’s captaincy hasn’t been great either. Sending Shubhman Gill at number 6 or 7 will never yield his true potential. The form of Uthappa is worrying, and so is Lynn’s who seems to have no idea how to play spinners on Indian pitches. Would like to see Ishank Jaggi get a run in or take a gamble and draft in Delport in place of Lynn, and have Gill and Narine open the batting or Gill coming in at Number 3 and Uthappa retaining his spot.

Bowling

The bowling department looks set although Narine has been hammered over the last couple of matches, and Chawla leaking runs at the end. Mavi should consider himself unlucky for getting belted by Iyer, but a more experienced head would be better for KKR if they are to win IPL 2018. We can see the much-maligned Vinay Kumar taking his place.

The key remains with Russell with the bat at death and the spin trio in the bowling department. DK is a brilliant finisher and is a knock away from setting the tone.

KKR Playing 11

Robin Uthappa, Sunil Narine, Shubhman Gill/Ishank Jaggi, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, Cameron Delport/Chris Lynn, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Mitchell Johnson

Today’s Match Prediction: RCB Vs KKR. Who Will Win today?

The money will be on RCB solely because of the Chinnaswamy flat track, and KKR’s batting in IPL 2018 relies heavily on Russell for the firepower. RCB would feel confident if they manage to put up a score around 200-210, while KKR will look to score aplenty and defend the score. It is a battle between two teams running low on confidence, and the 29th match of IPL 2018 may signal the end for one.
