On the back of a convincing victory, RCB will be looking to carry on with the momentum, and the victory against KXIP has broken the voodoo of 6 consecutive home games without a victory. The Chinnaswamy crowd always pour in numbers, but one could feel a sense of disappointment following a dismal 2017 campaign. However, fresh year and a fresh start mean RCB can once again compete for the title, and as Kohli said, this may be the most balanced RCB team ever. There is little doubt on that. RCB has been keen on picking up players with more than one special ability, which gives skipper Kohli plenty of options.

Having De Villiers and Kohli in the same team is like having Messi and Ronaldo in a team” said Jos Buttler, and it would be foolish to argue on that. Well, the latter hasn’t fired yet, but De Villiers was at his imperial best with a composed but brutal half-century that guided them to a paltry total posted by KXIP. McCullum’s style of playing will never be questioned, but Kohli would be happy to see de Kock amongst the runs. Mandeep Singh is proving to be a gem of a player, but the form of Sarfaraz Khan is worrying. Woakes has been bowling good areas, but Umesh Yadav would be the man of the moment with Khejroliya and Chahal alongside Sundar cramping up the run flow.

Key Players to Watch Out

The key players will always be Kohli, De Villiers, and McCullum despite whatever form they are in, and throw among them a certain de Kock, and you suddenly have the best batting line-up. Umesh Yadav has been phenomenal and is bowling with a new found zeal. Sundar was brilliant in the middle overs, and days where Chahal gets a stick it is good to have such options.

RCB Playing XI

Quinton De Kock, Brendon McCullum, Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Chris Woakes/ Colin de Grandhomme, Kulwant Khejroliya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals were never the flashy ones, and Shane Warne knows he does not have enough depth in the squad like most of his contemporaries. Rahane was given the captaincy following Steve Smith’s one-year ban, and he has looked a little nervy at times, but Jinx has a steady head and has looked good with the bat as well. However, he will be desperate not to run out D’Arcy Short this time considering the southpaw has had a horrid start to his IPL career. IPL 11 has also seen the likes of Ben Stokes promoted at number 3 while Sanju Samson has looked ominous. Jos Buttler, on the other hand, isn’t getting more minutes on the pitch and will be a vital player on a flat track.

The bowling is where RR does not boast of a match winner. Likes of Dhawal Kulkarni, Shreyas Gopal, and Ben Laughlin are good, but none of them have produced a match-defining spell till now. Warnie does not have much to choose from, and it will be expected of him to choose with the same 4 foreign players, but a change in the remaining 7 can be seen.

Rajasthan Royals will be banking on Short’s heroics and will not want it to be short-lived (had to). Rahane needs to steady the ship, but rack up runs as well with Samson and Stokes ready to power them through the middle overs. The role of Buttler is the highlight of RR and if he can get 30 balls at the death, he can create havoc.

Rajasthan Royals Playing XI

Ajinkya Rahane, D Arcy Short, Ben Stokes, Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Rahul Tripathi, Stuart Binny, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Ben Laughlin/Ish Sodhi, Dhawal Kulkarni
