A do or die match!

It’s the second match of a blockbuster weekend! Kings XI Punjab takes on the Royal Challengers Bangalore for match no. 28 at Mohali. RCB are really struggling in IPL 2019 as they sit at the bottom of the table with zero points. Kings XI is at a better position than RCB with 8 points but they have been far from impressive themselves. So, join us for the latest team news, starting XIs, key players, and of course our prediction.

Kings XI Punjab

The Punjab lions have been unpredictable to say the least. There are times when, Punjab play like champions but again look like they won’t make it to the playoffs. Last match against MI proved to be a bit unlucky for KXIP, who despite a solid score failed to keep Mumbai in check. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle provided the best start in ages as both of them went on to destroy the MI bowlers. Rahul in particular was brilliant, smashing 100 off just 64 balls. But the knock was in vain, as KXIP could not win the match. Apart from Rahul and Gayle none of the other batsmen stood out as they could not even make it to double figures. KXIP have to take full advantage of a below par RCB. Players like David Miller, Karun Nair and Mandeep Singh will need to contribute as well to the team’s cause.

The dusty pitch of Mohali has favoured the home side in the past seven occasions. Punjab will be looking to continue on their unbeaten run at home. Ashwin and Shami hold the key to unrattle the likes of Kohli and de Villiers. Curran proved expensive in the last match and will be looking to bounce back in this one. Ankit Rajpoot provided a decent enough performance and looks set for the playing XI again.

The selectors will be hoping for Gayle to return after an injury scare. KL Rahul and Gayle will undoubtedly be the main threat for RCB. Ashwin and Shami will oversee the bowling attack.

Predicted XI

KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, David Miller, Karun Nair, Sam Curran, Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, Hardus Viljoen, Ankit Rajpoot.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB have indeed endured one of the worst seasons of IPL so far. After six consecutive losses they have equalled Delhi’s poor record from 2013. Another loss will make them the team with most consecutive losses at the start of a season. RCB will at all costs try to avoid this from happening. Kohli and de Villiers will absolutely have to be at their peak. Kohli, who was recently named the Wisden Leading Cricketer of the Year for the third time, will have to rally his team and show that they still can fight. Parthiv Patel, Stoinis, Moeen Ali all have important roles to play in this do-or-die match for Bangalore.

The bowling of RCB has been miserable as their batting. Experienced bowlers like Southee and Ali have not been at their best. However, RCB received a huge boost in the form of Dale Steyn, who will replace the injured Colter Nile. But the spearhead will not be available for the match today. Chahal has been the best performer for the team with nine wickets to his name.

Kohli and de Villiers are the key men for RCB today. But the other players will also have to rally around their captain and win the match.

Predicted XI

Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Pawan Negi, Tim Southee, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav.

This one will be tough. KXIP look undefeatable on their home turf while RCB will come at them all guns blazing. This might be an unpopular opinion but RCB can just walk away with their first win of VIVO IPL 2019.
